Greenfield Business Feature: Wholesome Our Daily Bread 518 Offers Fresh Breads, Bagels, Rolls & More

Meghan Masten is a homesteader, who loves raising her family and operating her own business in Greenfield. She and her husband, Joseph, both grew up here but didn’t meet until they were both enrolled at Adirondack Community College in Queensbury.

“Greenfield is a special place if you love the country,” Masten said. “Everyone is so friendly and we have so much space.”

Space may be important when you spend your time gardening, tending to your chickens and homeschooling your four-year-old.  Masten became registered as a home processor with the state, and opened a very time-consuming home bakery business this January named Our Daily Bread 518, to adequately mirror the physical and spiritual importance of her faith. She is also expecting another child in November.

“I love to bake and people were always encouraging me to sell my goods,” she said. “It seemed like the time was right to add something new.”

Orders can be phoned in to 518-368-9839 or you can contact her on Facebook messenger @ourdailybread518. She can deliver the products right to your home or bring them to the market on Thursday evenings. Masten said her fresh homemade bagels are her top seller by far. She makes dinner rolls, loaves of bread, hamburger buns, cookies, fudge, muffins and more. Her products range in prices (see  the sample menu photo below) but average around $10 each.

Our Daily Bread 518  has a handful of regular customers already and has partnered with local syrup company Twin Leaf Farms to provide maple bagels and fudge for special events.

She spends more than 20 hours a week baking and describes the day before the Greenfield Farmers Market as a kitchen full of bowls of dough rising, ovens going nonstop, lots of lists and many different timers. Each week she bakes more than 50 items to bring to the market. Very few items have made the trip back home, Masten said.

The Greenfield Market brings such a big mix of people each week,” she said. “I love recognizing those that come every week and seeing new faces too.”

Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch said “We love to see families who center their lives around Greenfield, We are proud of this place we call home.”

See her at the Farmers Market at Middle Grove Park each Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
